Tuesday 6 March 2012: Bathtub a Boom Boom

My air jet tub has been having issues. A while back I had not used it in some time and when I went to turn on the air jets I had to go down to the breaker box (after getting into the tub so I was soaked) and flip the switch as it had flipped off for some reason. When I got it running there was a weird smell. I thought it might be a burning smell and that, of course, freaked me out. I turned off the tub, turned the breaker switch back off and being ill at the time decided to hold off doing anything. I really missed my tub.

Then recently I was ready to figure this all out. I went to flip the tub pluggy thing - you know - the thing that you flip up to keep the water from draining - well - it is stuck. So today I unscrewed the drain cover and put the hair catcher thingy that is two feet long in there scoping it out for clogs. Then I tried to get the pluggy thingy to work - no. I unscrewed that and got it to go up and down sort of but it would not when you put the screws back in place.

So I called the handy man. He fiddled with it and cursed at it and then told me to get Draino - a caustic chemical thingy to blast the clog out of there that was keeping the pluggy thingy for going up and down.

Well - I hate chemical anything so I made a face at him and said thanks and good bye. I then talked to the tub people about the jets and they said to fill the tub with really hot water (which at the moment is not possible because of the pluggy thingy) and then put in 6 cups of bleach and run it for a few moments then let it sit for 6 hours.

Well now I could Draino the drain then put the bleach in and watch the whole thing go BOOOOM! and really - is it right that a woman who wrote a book called Memoirs of the Bathtub Psychic NOT have a tub in working order? Or what if I did all this Draino and bleach and the whole thing exploded? Is that the way for me to die? Bathtub Psychic not so psychic and now after the explosion Medium at Large - medium everywhere - clean up at 11.

So I am trying vinegar and baking soda to free up the pluggy thingy that is plugged up and cannot hold water. The Draino stuff is still on the hardware store shelf thank-you very much.

Meanwhile tonight's trip to the lake was a bust. Total screw up and all my shots - well they suck.

I'm off to make everyone's dinner and then have a shower. After that I am back to Google as it seems I have much to learn about making a proper cup of tea.
