Lacebark

I was lucky today as when the sun was shining there was calmness,
allowing me to have some time to capture this tiny blossom, not an easy task - remember the little bud.

Maori name: houhere or houhi
Common name: lacebark, ribbonwood
Scientific name: Hoheria sexstylosa
Family: Malvacea (mallow family)

The Lacebark is a small tree with smooth green-brown bark becoming mottled with age. The leaves alternate, bright green, ovoid and toothed. The tiny white flowers are scented, profuse, single or in clusters from the leaf axils and flower late summer into early autumn. In the bud form many of you thought it was similar to a hellabore but once opened it is completely different and very, very small compared to a hellabore. There are many clusters of these pure white flowers on my tree this year, lovely when the garden is settling into autumn and the summer flowers are coming to an end.

A quiet day at home, a few jobs and generally pottling around, just the way I like it. Amazing to think that tomorrow will be Friday, where has this week gone??

Must fly now, time to fold some washing and think about tea - have a great evening all :)

Edit: Sorry folks feeling quite tired, an early night in store for me - I'll catch up with you tomorrow.
