Thursday 8 March 2012: Shazia
So this is my first portrait using my new camera. I've been doing a few test shots each day and quite liked what I was seeing yesterday. I can see the difference a DSLR/ good lens makes. I took it with me first thing this morning to the local shops for another practice run.
As luck would have it I encountered Shazia (which google tells me means "unique" or "precious"). She works in one of the many fruit and vegetable shots in Pollokshields, Glasgow. I headed straight to her shop this morning to stock up on some ginger and lemons to put in some hot water with honey to heal my raw throat (am currently off work feeling rubbish).
She was so shy and quite nervous about having her picture taken and felt she was a "state". It's amazing the change in someone when you insist you think they're beautiful and you show them the evidence. Although I'm sure if she knew I was coming with the camera, and I'd given her a chance to prepare, she'd have been happier about the image I captured. I need to get a printer as I said I would drop in with a copy for her to keep.
A friend reminded me it's International Women's Day today - have a good day ladies!
PS! Just discovered the flash...should I have used it here or no? I quite like natural light but the flash does make people look extra good! Answer on a postcard...or here if you like.
