Saturday 10 March 2012: Skunk Tail Tale

I may have told this story before but it is a favorite. Long time ago I used to meet my friend Dana at the dog park for a walk around the sports field with her several Norwich Terriers and my Newfie Sophie. Sophie was on leash and the Norwich ran loose every which way through the field, brush and across the banks of the waterway. One evening in the dark we lost site of one of the dogs. We could see them in the dark with their light up blinking collars. Next thing we knew there he was stinking of skunk.

Poor Dana. Had to load the gruesome stench into her car. Well I followed her to the grocery store where I suggested she get a lovely vinegar douche to clean the dogs. Well it worked and the next day the same thing happened. Actually it happened three times. Each time poor Dana was horribly embarrassed for buying five and six boxes of douche. The last time she went to a different store to save herself some embarrassment.

On the next walk I calmly and in a low voice said that maybe she could just use vinegar and baking soda next time. She turned and looked at me and gave me a deep frown since I knew this all along. She had been played :-) Yes - the vinegar and baking soda would actually work much better but then what sort of entertainment would I have had.

I was a horrible friend I must admit and that was long ago and far away and frankly I would not dare be such a brat today (yeah right!).

I bring this up because India spotted a skunk in the field this morning and ran up and down the fence line woofing at it. It scurried away thank goodness.

Please look here too! I took this at sunset and regret (sort of - as I do like this shot of India) not posting it here on my regular journal as I think it is one of my own personal favorites!
