Saturday 10 March 2012: The Lion Foundry
This graffiti commemorates the old iron foundry in Kirkintilloch.
Sadly it closed in 1984 but many of its products are seen by hundreds of people every day, often without realising it.
For example the iron work on the London Hippodrome, and Finsbury Park Empire; The Barnsley Bandstand and the Leeds County Arcade; the Victoria Pier Shelter, Blackpool; the iron facades for Mappin House in Oxford Street, Unilever House on the Thames Embankment, and the Lambeth Bridge (1932).
These are just a few examples.
However, for most of us photographers they are fondly remembered for two of the things we love to have in our pictures - the Red Telephone boxes and Phone Boxes.
