Complicated relationships

After jazz last nite, it was opera this evening -- the light kind, as is the case when it comes to Mozart.

The Kennedy Center featured Cosi fan tutte -- but the modernized version, which was really cool: the deceptive guys morphed into biker dudes (as featured in this blip); the language got an update to today's lingo (at least in the super-titles) and added local references, and the girls rocked some body moves which I recognized from my own kids.

Jonathan Miller directed this rendition and explains his transliteration to modern times by saying that Cosi doesn't have a relationship to the social structures of any specific period, and as such, could take place at any time. What the opera gained in entertainment value, it lost a bit in performance, though the baritone who sang Guglielmo "killed" it!

All and all, a surprising and fun evening! :)
