In passing

Given a few of the things that have been happening of late, I realize, rather acutely, that our minds are never able to focus on the present alone (I am talking in almost absolute terms here). I mean, if we are doing something we do not like, something we have to do all the same, then the mind finds solace in thinking of the time when the ordeal will end. And in the same way, if this ordeal is a supposed to continue for a while, then the mind gets rather bogged down, unable to see the "light at the end of the tunnel." Which of course, makes the present worse than it would have been otherwise.

These segments of time taken into consideration, however, vary from people to people, from circumstance to circumstance.
