Tuesday 13 March 2012: Butterbur
Today's 'brisk walk' took us into unknown territory, following the Braid Burn upstream from Oxgangs, through to Redford Road. We were quite surprised to find such a large area of woodland in the middle of housing.
Along the water's edge the Butterbur inflorescences are starting their growth from a small ball to a height up to twelve inches (note the leaves of Buttercup for scale). Eventually the leaves will grow up to three feet across.
