Thursday 15 March 2012: Viola
When you lie in wait for a Monarch butterfly with your camera in the garden, it won't come. If you are hanging out the washing or pruning the roses, they will be fluttering all over the place, flitting from dahlia to dahlia.
So in the end, you just have to blip what is there, which in this case is a plucky little viola pushing up between the cracks in the step. She escaped the weed spraying that Mr L. did yesterday because of her determination and sunny little face.
Another glorious day and another day down at the boat for Mr L. Tomorrow he and Jonathan are off to the farm to deal with log splitting for their mother. I did get some good news today when I went to the doctor - my fasting blood glucose levels are fine, so no sign of the diabetes that stalks our family in middle age!
I will try again with the Monarchs - I am determined to get one!
Thank you for all the kind comments and stars on my cicada yesterday, they were much appreciated!
