Cattle in the morning mist

Until just before lunchtime, this was the scene from our back garden. Couldn't even see the hedge at the other side of the turnip field, just the vague shapes of the Aberdeen Angus that are our closest neighbours.

Cattle in the morning mist
quietly grazing, what else
to do till the mist lifts
and they see their
separated offspring
across the lane.
Bellowing begins
as the mourning mist
fills their lungs.
