Saturday 17 March 2012: Kodak - I mean Canon - Moment
At last - a day at the beach that felt like Real Summer!
Mr L. and Jonathan arrived back from the farm just as Immy and I were leaving for her riding lesson this morning (they had, of course, been given jobs to do after breakfast!) so off we went, just the two of us. Two weeks ago, Immy had been promised that for her next lesson she could ride Percy, and as last week's lesson had to be postponed because of rain, that meant that today was the day!
He is quite a lot larger than Sparky, the horse she has been used to riding but she says he was a more enjoyable ride because she found him more responsive (which she put down to his having been a movie horse!) and said that his longer stride made him more comfortable. She got him to canter several times and went over the trotting poles with him - this was her fourth lesson. I've included a photo here.
This afternoon we drove over to Katieritieri beach on the edge of Golden Bay to meet up with Jonathan, Lynley and the children. It was another sunny day and actually hot on the beach - the first time it's been so since we arrived! The beach itself is beautiful with golden, almost orangey, sand and a creek that flows down into the sea at one end, like many of the best Kiwi beaches. The pine trees, limestone islets and crystal clear aquamarine water give the bay the feel of an Ionian island and it was hard to choose which shot to blip, but as I blipped Simone last week I thought it only fair to blip her brother this week! This shot is really just a family snapshot and wouldn't win any prizes but I rather like it because it sums up the sort of day it was. Simone particularly enjoyed the creek - the tide was coming in quite fast and she kept trying to hurl herself fearlessly into it (it was over her head at that point!) so Lynley spent a great deal of time helping her "swim" in it.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
