Saturday 17 March 2012: Leaning spire in Surfleet, Lincolnshire
St Lawrence Church Surfleet in Lincolnshire whose spire leans six feet four and a half inches from the perpendicular.
A consequence of building on unstable fenland soil! A cross on the ground by the door in front of the tower marks the spot above which the spire leans. The buttresses on the West end hold the tower up.
Two of the bells in the bell tower are actually outside the foundations of the church!
