Saturday 17 March 2012: Engine House on Trink Hill, West Cornwall
Ruin of tin mining engine house on Trink Hill in Cripplesease, West Cornwall, near the Engine Inn.
Tin was mined in Cornwall and traded with the Phoenicians before the Romans. However the best days were in the mid 19th Century when Cornwall was the biggest exporter of tin in the World.
The deep mines required pumping out and this required the installation of stationart steam pumping engines, installed in engine houses like this one.
