A time for everything

Magnolia

Saturday

'Tis like the birthday of the world,
When earth was born in bloom;
The light is made of many dyes,
The air is all perfume:
There's crimson buds, and white and blue,
The very rainbow showers
Have turned to blossoms where they fell,
And sown the earth with flowers.

-Thomas Hood

Our unusually high temperatures continue, and the blooms and blossoms are bursting forth everywhere. These magnolias were in International Friendship Park by the Ohio River, where we went to enjoy the sun and warmth this afternoon. Laura was with us for the afternoon. She is going to a play this evening with one of her high school friends who is home on Spring Break, so she came early in time for lunch at home, and spent the afternoon with us. Over Christmas break she had asked me to fix a fruit crumble, but I never got round to it, partly because we all got sick after Christmas, so today I made a blackberry and apple crumble for dessert. Unfortunately I had overlooked the fact that she had given up desserts and soda for Lent! Oh well, I'm sure she will be forgiven one relapse, especially as it was all my fault, and she wouldn't want to hurt her mother's feelings would she?!
