Monday 1 September 2008: Mooring Ring

Long Craig Pier, South Queensferry.

A mooring ring, galvanised then painted bright red.

Lacking the character of more antique varieties, it also presents a greater trip hazard, projecting vertically from the stone. Presumably the reason for the paint.

It is easier to moor to though, as there is no need to pick the ring up before threading the rope through.

A bright moment this morning. The first of September, and already the sun has crept noticeably toward the horizon, casting a long shadow. Forewarning of winter.

I'm back from a lovely weekend in Durham and Beamish, and I have a short week this week with lots to do before I head off for a long weekend diving trip to Lochinver. Best press on - sorry if I don't have much time for commenting at the moment!
