the valve + the clapper + the bell + the bell

It was always one of list of things to achieve but was always surmounted with "when we move out of a flat into a house", the potential for irritating upstairs and downstairs and sideways neighbours being quite high, even if our downstairs neighbours in the flat deserved some irritation. Since moving out of the flat the ability to process things on theoretical lists has been much reduced, but fortunately my mum's best friend's son's wife was Australian. When he upped sticks at short notice to move to the other hemisphere with my mum's best friend's grandchild, one of the things he didn't take with him was the trumpet he used to play, which is now mine. A slightly complicated and hard-to-plan but nevertheless useful way of getting round the whole contentious buying-a-trumpet-or-cornet-seeing-as-it-was-actually-a-cornet-I-played-in-school issue. The bicycle bell is just a normal freely-available bicycle bell, but happened to be matchingly brassy as I couldn't find one of the slightly cheaper steel ones I recently bought for the spare bike.
