Room 101 - #2

The second of my entries into Room 101

Today's rant is about the need for 'them' to control!

Not sure who 'them' is, but it's the constant and incessant interferance in our everyday lives with rules and regulations, what you can do and what you can't.

This is symbolised by this road junction which is just round the corner from where I live. Before 'they' interfered and decided that we were incapable of of negotiating this simple T junction without their ultimate command and control interference, it was a simple mini roundabut that we quite happily approached and mastered with consideration of the 'roundabout' rules of give and take. All were happy and the traffic flowed into and out of the town.

A few months ago 'they' decided we weren't to be trusted and so a traffic light system was put in place and chaos ensued. Now everyone avoids this simple junction like the plague. Rush hour is a nightmare, but even Sundays can see you queuing for up to 3 x light changes. The only releif is when the lights are 'down' and we can all go back to our considerate, community minded behaviour and traffic flows again.

...and do you know that traffic lights can cost between £20000 and £60000 to install...!

Lets get rid of these unecessary traffic controls and restrictions on roads that are functioning perfectly OK, and lets campaign against 'them' controlling us in other unecessary ways (rubbish collection rules, parking restrictions, exact change for the bus, unfathomable postage costs...I could go on).
