A harbour special

Brilliant sunny weekend in Christchurch!

I walked up Rapaki Track this morning, to be rewarded with a mint view of Lyttelton Harbour at the top.

I've blipped the harbour a few times, each from a different position.

The island in the middle of the harbour is Quail Island, former quarantine station and leper colony. It was used by Scott and Shackleton in the early 1900's for quarantine purposes and to train their sled dogs and ponies before their Antarctic endeavours. The island was declared a recreation area in 1975, and visitors can access it during the summer months by ferry.
