Spring Greens

Spring green now is the hedgerow strip
Wrested from Winter's death-like grip
Hawthorn hue of baby greens
Bird a-courting stands and preens
Polishes mating feathers bright
Be it eagle, wren, formidable, slight
Sings its heart for female kind
Builds nest with soft down lined
The flow of life changes but is the same
Spring time the place, mating the game
New growth the hedgerow fills
Hiding chick from weather chills
New life joins and calls its need
Spring again has the world freed
