Monday 26 March 2012: In remembrance
I post this blip at 1pm to mark the start of the funeral of a client with whom I'd worked regularly over the last eight years and who had in that time also become a friend.
Alison was possibly the most disorganised person I've ever worked with - when sitting at her desk, she was barely visible due to the mountains of paperwork surrounding her - but she was a lot of fun and we always had a giggle when we met up for meetings. She had two long-term illnesses, which she faced head on. We shared symptoms and similar treatments for one of those conditions, so we often provided moral support for each other. As if dealing with two chronic diseases was not enough, she was diagnosed with a further and very serious illness last year - tragically, it was likely the consequence of an earlier treatment. Although devastated by the diagnosis, she faced it with immense courage. But, sadly, she passed away two weeks ago.
I couldn't make it to her funeral today, so I decided to dedicate today's blip to her. I spent some time this morning thinking about her as I picked herbs from our garden: sage in recognition of her strength, thyme in recognition of her courage, and rosemary for remembrance. The threads I used to tie the bouquet and the colour I've introduced to the shadow are the colours of the awareness ribbons for the three conditions she battled. I've pinned the bouquet to the noticeboard in my office, where it will dry and provide a constant reminder of her.
RIP Alison, I will miss you.
