Monday 26 March 2012: cycad
One of our afternoon walks is along some of the, now abandoned, fairways of an old golf course.
Now back to base rock along which golf balls would bounce madly, the rough is equally dense with grass trees, big tall gums and cycads.
This gorgeous uncurling leaf is one of a cycad's green bouquet , a Macrozamia fraseri or M riedlei..I think I am going for the latter.
It was a thrill to come across this plant still unfurling and to see how the fronds will ultimately become straight and strong losing this curly tip.
