Tuesday 27 March 2012: Lookout

I have had a BRILLIANT day today :)

After a gentle start, Bertie and I drove into Peterborough so that I could meet up with autumnyears. We had a bit of a false start because I'd suggested we meet at the coffee house near the cathedral, but I told autumnyears that it was a Costa Coffee and when I got there it was Starbucks! After a panic when I thought I didn't have her mobile number with me, we ended up meeting halfway between the Costa and the Starbucks. We immediately had a big hug and I met mr autumnyears too. He disappeared off while we spent a good couple of hours in Costa chatting constantly. I don't think there were any pauses lasting more than a second!

We then walked up to St John's Church in Cathedral Square, which I've blipped before at night, for a short lecture on buildings and wildlife organised by Discover Peterborough. We both knew a lot of what was discussed already, but it was interesting to find out a few things about bats, various endangered birds and greater crested newts that we hadn't already known. And we both now want a bat box! There was also a display of photographs by the Peterborough Photographic Society, so we had a look at those and practised our photo critque skills ;)

We then wandered over to the cathedral, where we bumped into mr a again, and took the opportunity to get a few photos, before abandoning him once more while we wandered around the cathedral (no inside photos though, as you have to buy a licence to take pics inside and it's not really worth it for a short visit). We met up with mr again outside and then they headed off to M&S, while I headed home. I think we could probably have talked for a lot longer but I took pity on mr a as he'd been wandering around Peterborough aimlessly for four hours by the time we went our separate ways! What a fab time I had - can't wait to do it again.

Today's blip is a crow that was enjoying the beautiful weather from a wall of the cathedral grounds. I was really torn between this and another shot, which I've put in my Blipfolio, so Ant chose for me today.

Edit: Just noticed that last year's blip was a section of the cathedral entrance and was my first blip with the zoom lens I used to take the crow today! Spooky.
