Who am I to disagree?

Coarvihytta to Calalveshytta

Another day when it was my turn to write the Log Book, so here's my entry:

After a pleasant chat and coffee with the "Wolverhampton Wanderers" it was time to head off to Calalveshytta. A quick look at the map to ensure we knew the way out, then Mick comes up to Petrina, Fiona and me - "So you three can find the way out of here?" - No problem, we take a bearing and helped by the tracks of the "Wolverhampton Wanderers" who'd come in that way last night we were soon on our way.

After a couple of km our role of "find the way out of here" turned into you three plus James are navigating to the hut today. Okay, fine, but it was a bit of a shocker how unprepared we were for this task. Two maps between the four of us both neatly filed away in our sacs. My knowledge of the rout was Eastish for a bit, North Eastish for a bit to a lake then Northish and North Eastish to the hut - Not exactly the level of detail required. However, once we knew our role, maps were retrieved and set and in the end we got to the hut more or less as we planned. In a reasonable five and a half hours for the 12km.

It was an interesting exercise with each of the four of us contributing, but perhaps the knowledge that there was a back seat driver in the form of Mick made us a bit more cautious and wary of making a mistake and therefore taking longer than would be ideal to make a decision. Mind you it was nice to have the safety net of the back seat driver in this rather serious terrain.

All in all an interesting and successful team building day - nice that the weather was calm enough to let us stand around and debate the route!

Today's Photo: It's our group all eight of us courtesy of the "Wolverhampton Wanderers" - Petrina, Rancidand, Fiona, James, Mick, Kathy, Philip (with dunce's cap) and me - Why's Philip wearing a dunce's cap? Well this morning when he was waxing the skis he managed to wax a set of the "Wolverhampton Wanderers" - they were fishscales - you don't wax fishscales - fortunately he found some white spirit and dug himself out of that hole.

Rancidand's version of the day.
