Wednesday 28 March 2012: That time of year again...

It's been a busy day. Work until 4pm, gastroenterologist at 6pm, annual haircut at 7pm and then The [wonderful, wonderful] Waterboys at Cambridge Corn Exchange at 8pm.

Gastro appointment was ok. I started to make a small reduction in the dose of my azathioprine, the drug that keeps my colitis in remission, three weeks ago, as agreed with the consultant at my annual appointment last year. My colitis seems to be none too impressed with this change, and so I have to revert to having my bloods taken monthly again instead of quarterly (boo) and I need another test to check the degree of inflammation in my colon before we decide whether to increase the dose again. I'm back to see him in four months to see how I'm getting on, although he'll let me know in the meantime if the tests show more urgent action is needed.

Skipping to the gig. No one else wanted to go to see The Waterboys tonight, so I went on my own. I missed the first couple of songs on the way over from the hair salon, but the standing area wasn't packed, so I pushed through the crowd to a spot near the front left. I'd taken a risk by putting my Samsung in my bag, but no one checked as I went in and the security guard near me didn't say I couldn't use it, so I've got probably the best performance pics I've ever taken. I wish I could take the Samsung to gigs more often! I didn't just take pics though, I did sing and dance about too. The new stuff, which is some of W.B. Yeats' poems set to music, is excellent, but it's the old stuff that I love and it was brilliant to hear some old favourites - The Whole of the Moon, Fisherman's Blues, A Girl called Johnny, The Pan Within... The first time I ever saw The Waterboys was at the Cambridge Corn Exchange back in 1988 (I think), and it was wonderful to see them there again. Only trouble is that I'm now deaf in my left ear. Pardon?

Ordinarily I'd have blipped a gig pic, especially as some came out really well, but I've uploaded them to a set on Flickr, because I just had to blip a pic of my mate bikeypete cutting my hair. I've known Pete for *cough* about 25 years *cough* now. He's the only person who's cut my hair in that time. I go to see him once a year and he sorts out my straggly ends and makes my hair look nice again. It's always fab to see him, but it was particularly fun this time, as we had loads of blip stuff, blippers and tweeters to gossip about since I introduced him to Twitter and Blipfoto last year ;)

Now I'm off to bed, although I'm wondering how I'll sleep through the ringing in my ears...
