I happened upon a protest outside Holyrood this lunchtime, calling for - well I'm not entirely sure. The headlines and placards show Balwant Singh Rajoana who has been sentenced to death for the murder of the Chief Minster of the Punjab in 1995. The leaflet handed out touches on a few points; google throws in a whole lot more. The situation is enormously emotive, enormously complex, involves a terrorist act linked by the perpetrators to state-condoned massacre which was a reprisal for another suicide killing which undoubtedly goes back further. I, for one, am in no position to take, well, a position.

Except that the right to peaceful protest is a damn good thing.
