The Edge of the Wold

Blue mountains

Simon and Bill are here seen descending off Mullach Clach a' Blair (Summit of the Stony Plain) back down towards Glen Feshie. The view is west into the afternoon sun that was layering the rounded mountains beyond. This was the third Munro of the trip, and was not the original target on what was meant to be a rest day after the exertions of the day before.

Earlier we had toiled up the steep track from Glen Feshie with the intention of botanising in the Coire Garbhlach. It was like walking in Spain in the heat of the afternoon, an even warmer day than Sunday had been. We had lunch on the rim of the corrie, then a tentative fossick around the snow beds. At this point Bill's pulled muscle complained, and he was considering returning to base the way we had come. Somehow the corrie didn't look so inviting in the shade of the north facing cliffs, so we decided to go on and bag the Munro.

Then it was a steep descent back to Glen Feshie aiming to miss the steep cliffs above the pinewood campsite. Simon's navigation was spot on as ever, and we came down the pine-clad slopes back to the River Feshie.

Simon had saved the biggest meal until last, rounded mountains of spaghetti, enough for 8 people rather than just the four of us. But it all disappeared.

New bird for the year: crested tit (117 on the yearlist) in the Glen Feshie pines.

This is the first backblip to go on. I will be back later this evening to put Tuesday's and today's (Wednesday) on.
