The Edge of the Wold

Glen Feshie

This was the view we had from the camp up Glen Feshie every morning before the sun climbed above the mountains and illuminated the pinewoods. We were early to rise before starting the 6 mile hike back to the car.

There was a long detour to do on the way back, up to Inverness and down the western side of Loch Ness to visit a Trees for Life nursery where Bill and Simon wanted to learn about growing techniques for certain montane trees and shrubs.

Then the long trek south, looking out all the way for birds to add to the trip list (which finished on 64). The keen eyes of BrokenBanjo added black grouse, which we had dipped on in the Glen Feshie pinewoods. That was a new one for me for the yearlist (118).

And finally late in the evening home to Wifie and Bob, and the oh so badly needed bath. It's when you sort out the dirty clothes the following day that you realise what a bunch of mingers you have become in a few days. We wondered what it must have been like for the people at the Tree Nursery being confronted by 4 smelly men (though Bill had warned them beforehand).

A particularly wonderful winter camping trip this year. Hardly winter though, it was as well that we left behind most of the usual winter gear, and that I packed the sun cream.

As I post this, there are still two backblips to go on, but they shall have to wait until Friday evening. Next is today's (Thursday).
