One Crowded Hour

I bought this little book Aircraft of World War l, one of the hippo book series,at an op shop.

Written in pencil on the inside cover is the following 'Page 84 Dad flew this machine in March-April 1917. Later shot down in it,and a prisoner.'
In the bottom left hand corner is written '60, SQN, R.F.C'
If you look at the text, the names 'Ball and Bishop of the R.F.C' are underlined in red as being among the great pilots who flew Nieuport 17s. I wonder if the writer in pencil was the son of Pilot Ball or Bishop.

It seems such a shame that the book is on my grandson's book shelf and not on the shelf of a grandchild or even great granchild of the pilot.
Who knows perhaps it will return to such a shelf one day. Until then we will take good care of it.
