Sgwarnog: In the Field

One Spark

With the weather being so dry over the past few weeks, the moors are drying up, and the bracken in particular is at risk from fire. Unfortunately this coincides with nesting season, so fires like this one, which was burning on Baildon Moor 48 hours ago can have far more than a superficial effect.

The fact that this one started after dark makes it extremely unlikely it was a natural wildfire. The kindest interpretation is that it started accidentally from a discarded cigarette, but sadly there's a fair chance it was a deliberate act, and that's what the fire service think about this one. Thankfully they were alerted fairly quickly, and were able to respond and get it under control.

Now I know you blippers are sensible folk, but hey, let's be careful out there.

last year's bracken
dry
like tinder
all it takes
is a spark
