Saturday 31 March 2012: Sketchbook story...
764/365: ... done while we were watching Felix at his swimming lesson this morning.
Oh, and the little song Maddy wrote about was continued overleaf and said 'I am a butterfly as fine as can be'. And that was as far as she got.
Her writing is always a teensy snapshot of whatever was going on in her head at the time. It's like a window into her world. It'll be interesting to see what Felix comes up when he starts to read and write - I hope he'll write down gems such as the one he came up with this evening about hair dye. Apparently 'when people dye their hair they take off their real hair and replace it with fake hair'!
Overall we had a fairly standard Saturday today. The children had swimming this morning - Maddy first and she was (hooray!) fine today. Then, off to to the shops to buy a birthday pressie for one of her friends... then back to the pool for Felix's lesson. His lesson was far less straight forward. He was supposed to be doing breast-stroke legs but failing dismally. His teacher was chanting 'Oop, out, snap!' to describe how his legs needed to go. But Felix couldn't grasp that his knees should go 'oop' to his chest... instead he bent his knees, lifted his feet upwards and kicked himself in the bottom Over. And over. Swimming lessons are a guaranteed comedy moment. From the competitive Dads on the side trying to coach their 3 year old to Olympic glory to the bobber and bouncer kids who joyfully ignore the teacher for a full half hour. It's quality.
Anyhoo - that was the morning. This afternoon, Maddy had a party to go to. And... guess what? She went! I know, I know. It doesn't sound like much, but this is pretty momentous. The only party she's been to before that she was happy about was her very very best friend. And even more, she came home having said that she enjoyed it!!!!
*faints*
While she was doing that, we were in the garden. Did some more digging of weeds and Nick put up a cheapo polytunnel for me to grow my tomatoes / peppers / cucumbers etc in. The person who was most excited about it was Felix and once it was up and Nick was desperate for a cuppa... Felix brought garden chairs, set them up in the polytunnel and insisted they sit out there together!
And that was just about that! Phewie.
PS Cough still all present and correct. In case you were wondering. :o)
PPS My 'blip the kids and lose a subscriber' theory is still holding good - it's happened a few times this week already. Aren't people funny!
