Sunday 1 April 2012: Brielle
On april the first 1572 Brielle (Den Briel) was liberated from the Spaniards by the Watergeuzen who were pirates just passing by.
Since as long as I can remember and in al kinds of weather this act is played in the streets of Brielle. Even the people who don't participate are dressed up as Spaniard or Watergeus. The streets are decorated in a 16th century fashion.
During the day everybody stays in their role in the evening the "spanish" and the "Watergeuzen" dance together.
This little girl seeks comfort with her mother as the Spaniard passes by.
