Spring Splendour

My daughter Cecile and her husband, Heinrich, left this morning for a familiy reunion in the Kruger National Park, next week.

It is a long journey, they travel by road, and the intention was to stay over in a little town called Rhodes, which is situated on the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains.

Rhodes was named after Sir Cecil John Rhodes, (who would have guessed?) and at the moment has about 26 permanent residents ..... almost a one horse town ...

But the surrounding mountains and beautiful nature make it a sought after place for nature lovers who seek to get away from IT ALL.

Cecile and hubby has bought an erf in Rhodes quite a few years ago, and they plan to build a farmstyle sandstone house one day. The sandstones have already been aquired from the area.

It is mostly surrounded by a farming community and in our winter season, when there is snow on the mountains, the town is well visited and supported by tourists who go to Tiffandel to ski. Of course the local pub, hotel, post office, and grocery store supply all the immediate needs.

The rose blip is from a bunch of beautiful spring roses in Cecile's home.
