Friday 6 April 2012: Buttermere: Birch in rain

One of my favourite trees, and I was very sad to see the right-hand branch snapped off by storms. A really rainy day at Buttermere today, but the combination of textured cloudy sky, and the recession created by the rain separating the foreground tree from Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks at the far end still give this some impact even in really unpleasant conditions.

I used a 0.9 ND grad filter to retain detail in the sky, the biggest challenge today was to keep water drops off the filter and lens.

Thank you all so much for helping the celebratory pic of Emma yesterday reaching the spotlight page!
