Tuesday 16 September 2008: More horsing around
Shooting a jumping practice tonight.
Practice for the riders, and practice for me. There's a lot to learn in shooting showjumping - which angles work, where the rider will be looking, how high over a jump the horse will go (so you don't cut off the riders head), the difference between a horse's jump and a pony's jump, how fast they arrive at different jumps, the optimum point of the jump to get the horse looking its best etc etc.
All compounded by some wacky flourescent lighting (which came on just after this shot). Yes, it brightened things up (a bit) but it has a built-in flicker that only becomes obvious when you are shooting at a reasonable shutter speed - two shots with identical camera settings can end up about a stop different in exposure. And as for the colours... well, tomorrow my WhiBalcard may find itself in a very dangerous position.
