Day 1

Snow, high winds, freezing cold.

Not looking very good for the drive south in the afternoon.

The Cygnet was on fine form and full of beans. He scoffed everything at lunchtime so he must be feeling better. When he was put down for his nap he refused to sleep and lay singing........ under the bedroom door.
The child is a nutter!

By the time we had to head south the weather had improved........it had stopped snowing. However, in Cumbria the local weather and traffic updates kept telling us the snow between Penrith and Scotch Corner was a nightmare. Nothing at Penrith - or for quite a few miles and we began to think it was a case of "what a bunch of wimps". Okay the wind was bad but that was all.

Then it hit..... Sweeping across the road in sudden patches driven by the howling gale.
The wind was quite capable of pushing the car sideways without the help of snow on the road.

It was not fun.

But it cleared by Scotch Corner and the rest of the drive down to Rotherham was fine and we had a nice cup of tea and a lovely meal waiting for us when we got to No1 son and his fiancé.
