Desperately Seeking Susan

Sunday 15 April 2012: Broadstairs

Drove to Broadstairs this afternoon for a walk along the seafront. It was abit cold and windy but at least the sun shone. The band were playing and were very good. The conductor was a charasmatic chap chatting to the audience insisting they sing along to the South Pacific pieces. He could have been a double for Keith Chegwin!

The brick building on the clifftop behind the bandstand is Bleak House (renamed in honour of Charles Dickens after his death in 1870. It was named Fort House when he stayed there. This was his summer holiday home and he wrote many of his novels there.

We were getting hungry and found a fantastic little tapas restaurant in the town. We had: aubergine piquillo peppers with serano ham, sauteed chicken livers, crispy pork belly and tiger prawns with capers and cucumber relish, meatballs with coriander and spring onions, grilled gurnard, black olives, capers and tomatoes and salt cod fritters and spicy tomato sauce ....delicious.
