Saturday 14 April 2012: Muni Wires, SF

The Mission District in San Francisco held a weekend Open Studios event--hundreds of artists opened their doors to the roaming general public. Following a colorful map, we chose buildings that had been converted to multiple studios--several floors of wonderful old brick structures that were a treat in themselves--and feasted on painting, bookmaking, sculpture, jewelry, mixed media, fiber arts, photography, pottery, some of it run-of-the-mill and some absolutely extraordinary.

At the end of a long exciting day, I was relaxing in my friend's hot tub, on a third story deck high on a hill overlooking magic city lights, thinking nothing could be more perfect. Suddenly fireworks began after the baseball game at AT&T park--the night sky filled with brilliant colors and shapes. Now there is a proper end to the first day of a person's vacation!
