Tuesday 17 April 2012: nomoreplace
With a couple of days of finding some red-and-white barrier-tape across the lift bridge one lunchtime, there is now a fence and gate and bollard on each side, pinching peds and cyclists closer together, creating conflict where there was none, requiring the wee man who lives under the bridge and presses the button to raise and lower it when wee boats come past to come out to open the gates to allow famblies with bike seats and trailers through (at least they weren't forced to go around the cobbles around the edge of the basin or to go over the steps) and generally creating faff through the application of faff. I quite frequently use this to get home if I take escape-variant-route #8b but have also recently been trying a route in over this that utilises the novel contraflow on Torphichen Place after the possibly-well-intentioned but inexpertly-realised cut-through between Fountainbridge and Morrison Link.
