Wednesday 18 April 2012: Römisches Theater & Railway Station
That is where the Roman Theatre stood in Mainz. When they built the railway in the latter half of the 19th century, I suspect they were a bit gung-ho about progress and nobody getting in the way of it and so they just built the thing right through where the stage would have been (that's now platform 4 if you're interested). At least they are trying to do something to preserve it now.
When I'm not learning German (or anything else for that matter) I shall learn about the Romans in Germany. That'll be about 25 years I suspect or probably longer.
Yesterday's song in German was Buddy Holly & "Raining In My Heart". I expect a few groans from today's effort :-
Die Welt zieht sich zusammen
Hast du je gedacht
Dass wir so nah sein könnten, wie Brüder
Die Zukunft liegt in der Luft
Ich kann sie überall fühlen
