Wednesday 18 April 2012: Decius Mus Tapestry

This tapestry depicts scenes from the life of Decius Mus and adorns the walls of one of the rooms in Bramshill. It was made in Brussels circa 1650 to a design of Peter Paul Rubens: it is a very fine textile in wool and silk from the workshop of Franz van den Hecke.

Decius Mus was famous for having a dream on the battlefield which led to his sacrificing his own life, along with the lives of the enemy, in thanks to the gods for victory.

I have backblipped Monday after checking permission...
