Thursday 19 April 2012: Arches
From the thumbnail, you'd maybe think it was a church, or an ornately decorated stately home. But no, it's a functional construction, built for mundane purposes, to carry the old Caledonian Railway Granton branch railway line over the road from Haymarket towards Corstorphine in Edinburgh. The line eventually closed to passengers fifty years ago, and a few years later closed to goods traffic as well. The line is now a cycle path and the old platforms heavily overgrown, although you can still see some remnants of the past amongst the undergrowth.
