Interval gardening today! In the intervals between heavy rainshowers I have been planting some perennials. During the somewhat longer periods of rain I have been in the hide.
I'm always surprised by the number of small birds out in the rain. Their waterproofing must be very efficient. Some of them even seem to enjoy it - the great tits for instance, appear to play a game of 'smash and grab' - darting backwards and forwards to grab a sunflower seed and then smash it and gulp down the inside before heading back to the feeder from a different position. The nuthatch on the other hand is a highly focused indiviual who doesn't waste any time on fripperies; in and out like a well-executed military exercise.
Fascinating!
