Sunday 22 April 2012: Kavarna (Coffee house)
You can spot J, Th and Ch leaving this coffee house in the Art nouveau Obecni Dum (Municipal building). We shared some apple strudel and sachertorte here this afternoon. It was a day of eating well as we also had a nice Czech meal for lunch in a restaurant decorated with a cycling theme.
We spent the morning in Josefov, the Jewish neighbourhood, where we visited three synagogues and the old cemetery. The Spanish synagogue was the most ornate and the Pinkas synagogue, with the names of the 77, 297 Czech Jews killed during the Shoah inscribed on the walls, was the most moving.
In the afternoon we rode the funicular up in to Petrin where we saw the 1891 maze museum and diorama, plus the Rozhledna, a small version of the Eiffel tower. We all agree that the most thrilling rides of the of day, though, were on the very speedy and extremely steep escalators in the Prague subway!
