Sunday 22 April 2012: Willow Lady
Shambellie House was our first port of call today. This is the Willow Lady, living sculpture, in the grounds. Depending on where you stand she looks; triumphant, defiant, exultant, exasperated, vulnerable, distraught or just plain scary. I can't make up my mind whether I like her or not, but she certainly stays with you.
The National Museum of Costume was terrific, this year's exhibition is "Off the Peg; Fashion from the 40's & 50's". The permanent exhibition is mainly Victorian, we had great fun trying on the replica corsets & laughed so much the staff came to find out what was going on!
On the road back to Castle Douglas we hit an isolated snow shower, very isolated. It lasted for about a mile, with approximately an inch of snow on the road, then stopped as abruptly as it started - very odd.
We rounded off the weekend with a walk around the Threave Castle estate looking for the Ospreys. We were partly lucky, the male Osprey is back but his mate hasn't appeared yet. Fingers crossed she gets back soon.
Back blips for last week start on Wednesday 18th.
