A single moment in time

The Postman's Knock

And none will hear the postman's knock
Without a quickening of the heart.
For who can bear to feel himself forgotten?
~W.H. Auden

It dawned on me this evening that I still look forward to flicking through my mail, on the off-chance that it contains something exciting. Maybe a party/wedding invitation, unexpected news or on a very good day a tax rebate (oh, yes, they do happen, I've had two in two months - both for refunds for maternity leave periods). Nine times out of ten though the items will be "junk". Very few bills though - the age of online banking and standing orders.
