Monday 23 April 2012: angry clouds over Bangor

This was the view this afternoon looking from the end of Bangor pier towards the city and Snowdonia.

The pier is ridiculously long almost crossing the Menai Straits. It was built in the late 1800s to try to make Bangor a real Seaside destination. Although the coast around is strikingly beautiful, Bangor lies on rocky shores and doesn't have a beach on which to play. Nevertheless the pier still stands and after a major renovation in the 1980s looks pretty good.
