The second half of life..

ANZAC spirit lives on . . .

ANZAC day today.

I did consider getting up early to go to the dawn parade but didn't. Had some quiet time catching up on a few things that needed doing interspersed with one or two things I wanted to do including tending to my poorly neglected garden.

I saw on the news last night that the most recent ANZAC award - the ANZAC of the year award - has been made to a non-military army. . . .

"The Student Volunteer Army's work shows that the values of the Anzacs are not relics of a bygone era. They are as important to young people of today as they were to the young people - the Anzacs - that landed at Gallipoli 97 years ago."

Many of these students are the same age as the soldiers who fought at Anzac Cove 97 years ago.

Personally I think this is a fantastic recognition of the work that student 'army' did after the devastating earthquake that his the Canterbury region. As Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae said:

"The young men and women who went out and delivered exceptional support did so in the true spirit of the original Anzacs"
