Wednesday 25 April 2012: Scotland 1 Norway 0

The Pencil monument at Largs commemorates the defeat of King Hakkon and his Norsemen at the Battle of Largs in 1263.
The Norse warriors were supposedly a fearsome, warlike crowd and had been conquering all before them as they swept down the west coast of Scotland. No-one knows for certain how they came to be beaten at Largs - maybe the townspeople got them on a bad day.
Ayrshire people can be pretty warlike themselves at the best of times.
And any excuse to build a stunning memorial.
