Wednesday 25 April 2012: Green-backed Heron (Butorides striatus)
Today I finally got a good shot of the Green Heron in our next door neighbor's tree...he usually jumps up to a spot that's totally hidden if anyone gets closeby, but this time he actually jumped right into a spot where I had an unobstructed view. I got off 4 shots, and this one was the best, with his eye glistening. They really are amazingly beautiful, and so much smaller than a Blue Heron. I noticed immediately what long thin claws he has...ow!
