Friday 27 April 2012: Pumping station !

Good morning it's not raining so took the opportunity to try and fix the broken pump in the basin at end of the little stream that runs from the pond. The purpose of this basin is to hold water that I then send by underground pipe to the top just by the pond it then cascades down the little stream giving it a much nicer effect then the normal slow dribble , it's turned off for for 5 or 6 months .Every year I have to also clean out the basin as over 12 months a lot of mud and leaves accumulate at the bottom and it all gets clogged up. Anyway couldn't fix the broken pump so will take it to the shop and see if it can be repaired before I consider buying a new one as they are very expensive . The pump you see in the photo is different this is pumping water out of the basin so I can get to the gunge which has to be shoveled out , the water being emptied followers the little stream on my neighbors side and finally about 200 meters later disappears under ground. This is not one of my favorite jobs but it's got to be done . So will have continue this work after lunch and also pick up lots of branches and twiggs that have come down due to the strong winds so it's going be a busy day but I'm really happy in the garden at last .
